Rilkean Heart 2.22 see Milk & Kisses * * * * *
Rilkean Heart was never really a favourite of mine, but hearing it in this version, makes it a whole new song. So short and sweet with just a piano and that voice stroking every note so tenderly. Bliss. By the way there was a videoclip thing for Twinlights with Rilkean Heart and Half-Gifts as a beautiful package surrounded by little instrumental bits and the actual songs were visualised as pictures of Liz Fraser with the song lyrics pouring over the screen.
Golden-Vein 2.49 The only exclusive song for Twinlights, this is a pleasant surprise. Sung in a high-pitched voice it is as sheer and beautiful as glass and matches the other songs perfectly. * * * * *
Pink Orange Red 4.29 see Tiny Dynamine * * * *
This is a bit of a funny choice I think, as it is completely different to the others in its original version. But this too works wonderfully in this fastidious arrangement.
Half-Gifts 4.15 see Milk & Kisses * * * * *
One of my favourite songs to start with, this is my favourite Cocteau Twins song ever. That piano, those strings... The voice and the lyrics. So emotional it makes me want to cry. The videoclip just makes it even better.
This is an EP with acoustic versions of songs. Elizabeth Fraser's singing is so emotional and clear. When I heard Twinlights the first time I was completely stunned, and stayed listening to it forever in the record shop. It made me realise that the Cocteau Twins would have been great even without the effects they normally use. My favourite EP, no doubt about it. ct-atlas.jpg (1684 bytes) Back To Atlas
