It is believed that Olof had moved to Stenshamn to work. In 1863 Olof left Stenshamn and moved back to Sturkö. At about the same time Cecilia disappeared from the church register of Torhamn parish, to which Utlängan and Stenshamn belong. She probably married Olof and moved with him but this has not been confirmed.

In 1874, Olof and Cecilia moved back to Stenshamn. At this period of time Olof was registered as a fisherman. He apparently had established himself as a fisherman when the family lived on Sturkö.

Sven was the son of Ola Olsson and Cecilia Larsdotter. He was a "stenhuggare" or stonecutter. He immigrated to the U.S. in May of 1903. Augusta, Marie and Verner came later in May of 1905. They departed out of Malmö, Sweden and went to West Chelmsford, Massachussets. Here they lived with Augusta's sister's family (Marie Pettersdotter and her husband Carl Nelson). Not too long after Augusta and children arrived, then the Sven Olson family moved to Wisconsin.

When I was young, my Uncle Verner told me how he remembered coming to America. While crossing the ocean he had a near misadventure. He was just a toddler when they made the trip. At one point he had wandered away from his mother and nearly fell into one of those "holes" that lead down below the deck. His mother caught him just before he fell down in. He also remembered seeing the Statue of Liberty when they entered the New York harbor. He said it was quite exciting to see and that he would never forget the site of that "tall lady".

Verner never married. He was quite the intresting fellow, though. He traveled around and stayed with various family members throughout his life. He was very skilled at woodworking and often helped out with building projects (house). Family members have told me that he made his own "fiddle" or violin and also built his own canoe. After he built his canoe he launched it in the Wisconsin River and his goal was to paddle it down the mighty Mississippi River. He got as far as Rock Island, Illinois before he was told (by the Rock Island Arsenal authorities) that he couldn't go any further because of security reasons. My thought is that they didn't want him to "kill" himself battling the strong currents and the wakes thrown off by the large boats and barges in the Mississippi River.

In his earlier years he tried following in his father's footsteps and worked as a "stenhuggare" or stonecutter in the granite quarry in Red Granite, Wisconsin. I don't think this was much to his liking. According to Ray and Ed, Grandpa (Sven) use to criticize Verner for being too slow and paticular. Verner was very meticulous in everything he did. He was a perfectionist. He enlisted near the end of WWII, but I believe he stayed stateside. He also was a "Hobo" and rode the rails in search of work. I remember him as a quiet, polite and gentle man who always had some good stories to tell if you cared to listen.

Julia was my Grandmother. She married Bernard "Beno" Gussel of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. They lived in the Stevens Point area until 1941. Beno was a teacher. In 1941 they moved to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Beno was employed as a millwright foreman at Badger Ordinance Works (a munition plant) until the end of WWII. About 1945, he formed Center State Industries (also called Beno Boy Manufacturing Company), a furniture manufacturing and dry kiln operation. This was sold in 1951. He later was employed at a local attraction called Storybook Gardens. He created many of the displays located at there. Julia and Beno also owned and operated the Lillegaard Motel (later called Sherwood Forest Motel) in Wisconsin Dells. After Beno died in 1967, Julia started to do more traveling. She traveled to the Holy Land and booked passage on a freighter to Japan. She spent every winter in Mazatlan, Mexico where she made many new friends among the locals. Every year Julia would pack up her little car with all our "hand-me-down" clothing, candy and other "goodies" and drive the whole distance from Wisconsin Dells to Mazatlan. Once in Mazatlan, she would park on a side street and open the trunk to pass out the articles to the "less fortunate" children and families. She never learned to speak fluent Spanish but that didn't seem to matter to the locals. They invited her into their homes for visits and to dine and celebrate special occasions with them. One family even honored Julia by choosing her to be godmother to their child...I guess actions speak louder than words.

Julia and Beno had five children, Beatrice (Beati), Bernard Jr. (Bud), Roseanne, Henry Robert (Bob), John Thomas (Tom). Roseanne died in 1991.

Raymond "Ray" married Katherine Van Ert. He served in the Navy during WWII. They owned and operated the Lake Aire Motel in Lake Delton (next to Wisconsin Dells) for many years. After selling the motel, they eventually moved to Plover, Wisconsin which is near Stevens Point. Their children are Karen, Christine and Randy. Randy just passed away in Oct., 1997. Karen now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico and works for the Univ. of New Mexico. Christine lives in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
