Peenemuende 2002

I visited Peenemuende at the northern coast of Germany in July 2002. This is the place where Germany developed and tested some of the most advanced weapons during WW2. At Peenemunde Wener von Braun and his team constructed and developed the V-2 rocket . This was the first rocket to fly a ballistic pattern and the first successful flight happend on October 3 1942. Von Braun later became a leading man behind the US spaceprogram and the moonlandings.

After the war, the place was used as a big military base by the Russians and Warshaw-pact states. When Germany was reunited, much of the Russian equipment was left and is now part of the museum. The museum is still partly under construction, but very interesting. Link Peenemuende.de
