Kristina från Duvemåla (or as it is known in the US "Kristina") is the musical by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It is based on the book "The emigrants" by the Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg.

Karl-Oskar and his wife Kristina are the leading characters, who emigrate from the parish Ljuder in the south of Sweden with all their children and some friends, during the famine 1848, to Minnesota USA.

Kristina doesn't want to leave Sweden and it's her struggling to be able to leave Sweden and her home, go across the Atlantic and settle down in the new country, the musical is about.
