Since the season of 1995 the nothern coastsection
of the Swedish Sighthound Club has been practising lure coursing.
In the beginning of the season of 1996 the clubsection COURSE RUNNERS was
formed. Course runners was one of the contributing factors to the development
of the national lure coursingproject within the Swedish Sighthound Club
(SSC). The lure coursingproject has the purpose to plan and coordinate
the lure coursing in Sweden to prepare for championships in the future. And of
cause give the clubmembers a "new" activity within the SSC.
What is lure coursing?
An exciting adventure, a way to stimulate the hounds,a test of many thousand years of huntbreeding, a simulation of harehunting, a efficient way to train the hounds for development of muscles and increased smoothness. All this makes the hounds feel better, run better and faster. A well trained hound get much better chances to avoid muscleinjuries than a untrained hound. Our modern society has limitied the sighthounds natural way of hunting. Let the lure coursing give the sighthounds maximal speed,enthusiasm and happiness. When you see the hounds joy of lure coursing you quickly realise that this is the sighthounds own sport! - Let the lure coursing bee the foundation of your hounds training!
How does it work?
1. On a field in the size of one or two soccerfields, plane or bumpy, you place a lc machin. The lure coursing machins task is to, with rapid speed pull in the 500-700 meter long nylonline. The nylonline is placed in curves that formes a track around 12 to 20 rollers.
2. The lure that symbolizes the hare is attached to the end of the nylonline and is the object that the hounds so intensively hunts when it goes around the trackin a zicky-zacky way.
This is the foudation that all forms of lure coursing is based on. Further more there is special rules of judging the hounds hunting skills. Special judges writes down their impression of each hound. The judges uses a pointscale (1-15 points) to grade the hounds qualities in five different parametres. These five parametres are: enthusiasm, follow, speed, agility and endurance.
