Previous kiln-projects:

Bottle-neck kilns built by my grandfather Björn Holmström, in Gefle c:a 1910, my first Bourry-box kiln built in 1986 and my second Bourry-box kiln built in 1991.

And now - in september 1998 - Project Aquagama:

Kiln shed errected summer -97

Kiln taking shape summer/autumn -98

Clay, water, wind & fire - in my Aquagama I will introduce water into the firing-process by means of a system of channels running in the floor of the kiln-chamber.

Preheated primary air for the fire-box in the middle of the kiln.

Life/death, love/hate, hot/cold, water/fire - the poetic aspect of this project are all too clear !

Now the Aquagama-project is slowly taking shape - follow the project as it develops from september -98 !

Brick-transport - approximately 30 tons of Alumo 60 bricks will be processed during the building-phase . . . . . .

Water-fixtures to supply the floor-channels with water. The water will be introduced at certain stages in the firing - gives cleaner combustion by introducing oxygen - also facilitates reoxidation during the cooling cycle. My trials with water-additions in previous kilns has resultet in very interesting colours in my work. This will be further explored with greater control in the "Aquagama" !

So - after 10 weeks of intense bricklaying - all that expensive wood comes out; it´s now the 24 of october and time for winter-hybernation in the workshop . . . . .
